About Us
In every community, there are hundreds of boys and girls who are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets or who spend many hours at home with no adult supervision. Today, more young people live in disadvantaged circumstances than ever before. Young people, especially those at greatest risk, need responsible adult guidance.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the educational, vocational, and character development of boys and girls in a safe and caring environment. Membership is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 years. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
Since 1943, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley has provided opportunities to youth in Knoxville and in what has now grown into a five county service area in the Tennessee Valley.
Locally, the Boys Club was founded in 1943, and the Girls Club was founded in 1963. The two organizations merged in 1990 to form the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Knoxville, which became the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley (BGCTNV) in 2002 to reflect its expanded service area. Fifteen facilities now exist in Knox, Blount, Loudon, and North Anderson Counties, and the clubs employ over 260 full time and part time staff. Through the Boys & Girls Clubs, young people are shown that someone cares about them and that there are concerned and capable adults to whom they can turn.
Today, 5,800 at-risk boys and girls who have a variety of unmet needs are taking advantage of the programs, activities, and services provided by BGCTNV. They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help young people take control of their lives, envision productive futures, and reach their goals.
